Mike Koncz, Manny Pacquiao’s adviser, has denied rumors regarding a supposed agreement between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather for a fight in September.
According to the rumors, an unnamed source who is close to the situation has confirmed that Mayweather and Pacquiao have already come to terms for their much awaited mega-fight and that everything that will happen from now until September will be “just theatrics.” The story came from a YouTube commentary posted on December 13.
Yahoo Philippines’ Ronnie Nathanielsz contacted Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz shortly after he arrived at the airport in Los Angeles for a reaction to the story.
Koncz inquired where he read the story and whom did they quote as the source of the story and emphasized “It's not me, my friend.”
He added, “please do not believe everything that you read (about a Mayweaher fight) unless it comes from Manny or me.”
The two boxing superstars have been involved in so many rumors regarding a fight against each other. The closest they have been to actually signing a contract was back in 2010. Yahoo Sports’s Kevin Iole received a copy of the contract containing all the details for the planned fight. Mayweather and Pacquiao would have split the pot equally with Pacquiao weighing and walking in first and Mayweather getting introduced first. The two fighters were both on the A-side then but Pacquiao is the clear B-side now as he lost two of his last three fights.
Pacquiao’s camp declined to sign the contract as Mayweather demanded Olympic style random drug testing. The Filipino fighter later on budged on the drug testing issue but the negotiations still fell apart.
The rumors started up again when Pacquiao won over Brandon Rios in Macau, which prompted the WBC to name him as the mandatory challenger for Mayweather’s welterweight title. The undefeated American fanned the flames by frequently dropping Pacquiao’s name in conversations which were mostly to make fun of him or put him down.
Although the boxing world is in agreement that a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will be one of the richest fights in boxing history, animosity between the two camps have prevented it from happening. Pacquiao fights under Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions while Mayweather promotes himself and works closely with Arum’s rival Golden Boy Promotions. Mayweather has also said time and again that he will not deal with Arum in whatever capacity.

Mayweather, Pacquiao finally agreed to fight in September
MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have agreed to face each other in September, a news website reported Thursday.
Referencing a video posted on the YouTube boxing channel 78Sports TV, Latino Post reports that the fight is finally a done deal.
The video commentary, which is about 15-minute long, features the anchor quoting a source who confirmed that the fight is happening this year. The source is reportedly the same person who revealed information about Mayweather’s fights with Robert Guerrero and Saul Alvarez even before the bouts were officially announced.
"Great news in the world of boxing. He [the source] is telling me that Floyd and Manny Pacquiao will be fighting in 2014 guaranteed and it's already done," the 78Sports anchor said.
The development comes amid various reports about Mayweather’s purported disinterest in a fight with Pacquiao, which most observers believe could break existing pay-per-view records and end up as the richest bout ever.
Mayweather even came up with a series of online posts mocking Pacquiao and hinting that a megabuck duel between them is far from happening. Meanwhile, Pacquiao is reportedly flying to the US to personally talk to Mayweather about a fight.
But the 78Sports anchor, again quoting his source, insists everything is just for show.
"Everything else that you will see will be just theatrics from here on out. But the fight is already done," he added.
Pacquiao and Mayweather have scheduled their ring return in April and May, respectively, although no opponents have been named yet. The undefeated American is reportedly eyeing British Amir Khan while Pacquiao has Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley and Ruslan Provodnikov in his radar.
Those fights will logically end up as preludes to a highly anticipated Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown.
It can be recalled that both camps tried to arrange the duel about a couple of years ago, with Mayweather insisting on an Olympic-style blood testing and at one point offering Pacquiao a flat fee of $40 million to face him.
The fight never came to fruition. Have the tides indeed changed? The world is still waiting.

Pacquiao-Mayweather bout to happen 'sooner than we think,' predicts analyst
Now that eight division champion Manny Pacquiao is back to his winning ways, speculations as to whom he will fight next are a plenty. But fans and experts alike agree that a match against undefeated Floyd Mayweather is the perfect match for the Saranggani representative.
"Bagay sila ngayon. Halos magkasing edad na sila eh. Bagay na sila," said boxing analyst Sev Sarmenta in an interview with News To Go's Howie Severino and Kara David. "Yung Mayweather through the years kaya magaling yun, maingat din yun eh. Hindi nagpapatama. Ang ilag-ilag nung Mayweather."
Mayweather's reputation as a very defensive-minded, even "dirty" boxer, may play a role if the fight pushes through, but the allure of having the American feel the power behind Pacman's punch is enough to get people excited.
"Magulang eh. Magulang," Sarmenta said of Mayweather. "I think magkakaroon ng problema. Hindi madaling kalaban si Mayweather. Magaling naman, tatama at tatama naman. Ang gusto siguro ng Pilipino is tamaan lang, tamaan lang kahit isa, para tumahimik lang. Ang Pilipino ganun kasi eh, kahit maisahan lang. I think aabot, I think that fight is going to happen, sooner than we think. Yung April, yung susunod sa September, hindi na pwede mag-iwasan itong dalawang ito."
Sarmenta added that a fight against Timothy Bradley may not be a good option given that the American is weak in attracting pay-per-view buys. Juan Manuel Marquez too might be apprehensive in facing Pacquiao anew, after knocking the Filipino out just before the end of the sixth round in their last fight.
Both Bradley and Marquez defeated Pacquiao in 2012.
With eight division titles already under his belt, plus a political career in the mix, the call to have the "People's Champ" retire has grown louder over the years. However, Sarmenta adds that there are several factors that affect Pacquiao's eagerness to stay in the ring:
"Yung glory, solve na siya dun eh. Yung pera siguro naisip niya ang limang anak nya, paglalaanan niya na iyan. What we do not understand and misinterpreted kay Manny is yung willingness niya na tumulong sa tao, natural eh. Sabihin natin, pulitiko. Pero pag galing ka sa wala, nakikita mo yung mga wala, there is a natural part na gusto nyang tumulong. I’ve seen that. What does he want? One last fight kay Mayweather."
The purse that comes with a Mayweather fight, plus the opportunity to scratch out the last name on his fight list might just usher in the end of the Pacquiao era.
"More than 20 million, 30 million," Sarmenta estimated as to how much Pacquiao might take home if he faces Mayweather. "Beyond our imagination siguro. It will have to be in US para matuloy yun. Pero I think Pacquiao wants to be measured against the best of our generation. Pag hindi nangyari ang laban, kawawa naman ang boxing fans in general.
"I think he will beat Mayweather in solid knockout. Natatakot si Mayweather kasi unblemished ang record eh. Ingay lang yan eh. Alam mo naman African-American, ang daming katabi eh, parang the group, sisigawan niyan tapos si Pacquiao, may group din naman si Pacquiao. I think Mayweather is thinking about it right now." - JDL, GMA News
